Ed Mortenson

Ed is a freelance drummer, studio musician and educator. A graduate from the music programs at Red Deer College and Grant McEwen College, Ed continues to study with many amazing players from around the world. Talented teachers such as Brian Thurgood, Paul Delong and Rick Gratton. Ed is called for many different type of gigs with styles ranging from rock, pop, disco, blues to country. Currently Ed fills his schedule with shows all over Canada and the U.S.A. , playing for original artist, tribute acts, corporate and coverbands.

As a studio musician, Ed has recorded with some world class producers: Michael Wagener (Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row, Janet Jackson, Alice Cooper, Queen); Ian Thornley (Big Wreck, Thornley, Ian Fletcher Thornely); Eric Ratz (Billy Talent, Monster Truck, Big Wreck); Rachel Bolan (Skid Row); John Whynot (Big Wreck, Blue Rodeo, The Watchman, Austin Powers); Darius Szczepaniak (Big Sugar, Street 66). Recently in 2015, Ed was invited to be part of a recording project in Nashville with producer Michael Wagener, Michelle Truman-vocals, Rachel Bolan-bass (Skid Row), Paul Taylor-keys (Tom Keifer, Steve Perry, Alice Cooper), Ryan Cook-guitar (The Big Rock Show).

Ed has played in countries all over the world. In 2014, he traveled to Sochi Russia to play for the NHLPA, at the Winter Olympics. Ed was honored to play for the troops in Afghanistan. He also spent three years performing with the show band, The Highlites while in South East Asia and the Middle East. When Ed is not on the road he is teaching at his own studio in Mississauga “The Drum Dojo” He teaches a variety of levels to a wide range of students.

Ed has been fortunate to work with many talented artists over the years. Ian Thornley, Tom Wilson, Rachel Bolan, Truths & Rights, Thomas Wade, Wild T & the Spirit, Heather Ballentine, Myria Webber, Elton Lammie, Frank Koren and HAARD, to just name a few.
